David Staines
David Staines is a writer and performer working across genres.
David wrote the libretto for the opera ‘Jack’ with music by the late Robin Martin-Oliver, and his musical (with composer Lucas Hal-Jones) ‘Night Flight’, based on a novel by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, had its first workshop in 2021 with an extraordinary cast of West End stars and is due to be recorded in 2026. He is also developing a new musical and an oratorio with two award-winning composers.
He has written two plays under a pseudonym which have been performed internationally, and is working on two memoirs as a ghostwriter.
David's books for children include: 'The Watchman of Kerioth' (nominated for Next Generation Indie Book Awards) and the 'Three Colours Adventure' trilogy - 'Green in Envey', 'Blue over Budapest', and 'Oranges and Felons'. A children's picture book is due for publication in 2026.
David is a member of ‘West End Has Faith’ a collective of Christian performers with whom he has sung in London and across the UK, and credits as a performer include: title roles in ‘Jekyll & Hyde’ (regional premiere), Anatoly Sergievsky in ‘Chess’ (Oxford Playhouse), Jesus in both ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ (Oxford Playhouse) and ‘Godspell’, Count Danilo Danilovics in ‘The Merry Widow’, Fagin in ‘Oliver!’, title role in ‘An Inspector Calls’, Poseidon in ‘The Trojan Women’ (Palace Theatre, Watford), Javert in ‘Les Miserables Masterclass' (Palace Theatre, London).
On Screen: The Psychologist in ‘Elemental Storage’ with Jack Klaff (Star Wars) and Alix Wilton Regan (The Wife), and Charles Williams in ‘The Forge of Friendship’ a documentary about The Inklings for Netflix.
David lives in Oxfordshire with his wife Melinda, their children and cat.
He is passionate about Jesus, cricket and Star Wars and often writes about the first two, and quotes the latter liberally.
